The Boycott Revisited THE PEOPLE of Sodom, the Bible tells us, were very wicked indeed.
They had a nasty habit of putting every passing stranger into one particular bed. If the stranger was too tall, his legs were shortened. If he was too short, his body was stretched to the required length.
In a way, each of us has such a bed, into which we put everything new. Confronted with a novel situation, we tend to equate it with a situation we have known in the past.
In politics, this method is especially pervasive. It relieves us of the irksome necessity of studying an unfamiliar situation and drawing new conclusions. (Wendy says: YES, and that NEW CONCLUSION which Uri Avnery just doesn’t seem to get is that the very concept of a Jewish state on stolen Palestinian land is hideously racist and Israel must now be transformed into a truly democratic state of Palestine-Israel, in which ALL the Palestinian refugees MUST be allowed their inalienable Right to Return as equals, WITH reparations, and Jews in Israel who don’t agree with this will be invited to leave. Simple as that.
Those Jews or their lackeys who create problems will be put in prison or deported. Simple as that. This kind of situation HAS happened before.
Just for ONE example, take the case of Estonia. The Russians took over Estonia, and then it wasn’t called Estonia anymore. Then when the Soviet Union was dissolved, it became Estonia again, and the Russians were invited to leave. Simple as that! This can and should happen in the case of IsraHell as well.
Almost all Jews who live in Israel come from another country, such as the USA (like Brooklyn, or Florida, for example), or Russia, or other countries as well. Most Israeli Jews have two or more passports. ALL Israeli Jews have the support of extremely rich Jewish patrons in the Jewish diaspora, such as the Rothchilds and George Soros, Haim Sabim, Steven Bing, just to name a few of MANY, and when Jews are invited to leave if they try to create problems with the new one-democratic state of Palestine-Israel, then they certainly have the resources to help them relocate to other countries from whence they came or other countries from whence their parents or grandparents came from, and I’m sure they would be able to choose almost any Western country where they could relocate to with the help of the powerful and rich organizations of the Jewish diaspora. Why is it that this very logical and fair conclusion is never considered by Jewish “progressives” such as Uri Avnery?
After all, it’s NOT a matter of ethnic-cleansing of Jews from Palestine-Israel (as some twisted Zionists claim)--- it’s a matter of Israeli Jews have to return the land and properties which they stole! Returning the “hot” property! It is RIGHT AND JUST. And it WILL HAPPEN, if the moral majority (even if many are still ignorant, and many are still silent) will have OUR way, which is consistent with MORALS and INTERNATIONAL LAW.)
Once, the pattern of Vietnam was applied to every struggle around the world – from Argentina to North Korea. Nowadays, the fashion points to South Africa. Everything resembles the struggle against apartheid, unless proven otherwise.
SINCE SENDING out last week’s article, “Tutu’s Prayer”, I have been flooded with responses, some laudatory, some abusive, some thoughtful, some merely angry.
Generally, I don’t argue with my esteemed readers. I don’t want to impose my views, I just want to provide food for thought and leave it to the reader to form his or her own opinion.
This time I feel that I owe it to my readers to clear up some of the points I was trying to make and answer some of the objections. So here we go.
I HAVE no argument with people who hate Israel. That’s entirely their right. I just don’t think that we have any common ground for discussion.
I would only like to point out that hatred is a very bad advisor. Hatred leads nowhere, but to more hatred. That, by the way, is a positive lesson we can draw from the South African experience. There they overcame hatred to a remarkable extent, largely thanks to the “Truth and Reconciliation Commission” headed by Archbishop Tutu, where people admitted their past offenses. (Wendy says: And that is exactly what is needed now, in the US and in Israel: a “Truth and Reconciliation Commission” headed by a non-Zionist, most likely NOT a Jew, unless it is someone like Gilad Atzmon.)
One thing is certain: hatred does not lead towards peace. Let me be quite explicit about this, because I sense that some people, in their righteous indignation over Israel’s occupation, have lost sight of this.
Peace is made between enemies, after war, in which awful things invariably happen. Peace can be made and maintained between peoples who are prepared to live with each other, respect each other, recognize the humanity of each other. They don’t have to love each other.
Describing the other side as monsters may be useful in waging war, but singularly unhelpful in waging peace.
When I receive a missive that is dripping with hatred of Israel, that portrays all Israelis (including myself, of course) as monsters, I fail to envision how the writer imagines peace. Peace with monsters? Angels and monsters living side by side in peace and harmony in one state, hating each other’s guts?
The view of Israel as a monolithic entity composed of racists and brutal oppressors is a caricature. Israel is a complex society, struggling with itself. The forces of good and evil, and many in between, are locked in a daily battle on many different fronts. The settlers and their supporters are strong, perhaps getting stronger (though I doubt it), but are far – even in their own view - from a decisive victory. Neve Gordon, for example, has been left unmolested in his post at Ben-Gurion University, because any attempt to remove him would have caused a public outcry. (Wendy says: Let’s face it, IF Neve Gordon called for the one-democratic state solution of Palestine-Israel, and stated that a Jewish state has no right to exist on stolen Palestinian land, he probably would be “molested” or worse by his fellow Israeli Jews.)
I ALSO have no argument with those who want to abolish the State of Israel. It is as much their right to aspire to that as it is my right to want to dismantle, let’s say, the USA or France, neither of which has an unblemished past. (Wendy says: Not only does the US have a blemished past, it has a very blemished present, largely due to the Israeli-Americans and their Zionist non-Jewish lackeys who are dominating US government, especially with regards to US foreign policy, and our US media!)
Reading some of the messages sent to me and trying to analyze their contents, I get the feeling they are not so much about a boycott on Israel as about the very existence of Israel. (Wendy says: Yes, that is right with regards to a JEWISH STATE BUILT ON STOLEN LAND— specifically the Jewish state of Israel, which is obviously a racist concept, and it has obviously been built on stolen land! And the Jewish state is still stealing land!!!) Some of the writers obviously believe that the creation of the State of Israel was a terrible mistake to start with, and therefore should be reversed. (Wendy says: Yes, but the correct word is transformed.) Turn the wheel of history back some 62 years and start anew. ( Wendy says: Yes, and to transform Israel into a true democratic one state of Palestine-Israel, with the Palestinian refugees all being allowed to return as equals and with reparations to it. See above in first paragraph.)
What really disturbs me about this is that almost nobody in the West comes out and says clearly: Israel must be abolished. (It disturbs me too, that more people don’t call for the TRANSFORMATION of the Jewish state of Israel into the one democratic state of Palestine-Israel, but many are calling for just that, but Zionist Jews don’t want to hear about it and therefore try to censor the one-democratic-state solution of Palestine-Israel and the Palestinian refugees’ Right to Return.) Some of the proposals, like those for a “One State” solution, sound like euphemisms. If one believes that the State of Israel should be abolished and replaced by a State of Palestine or a State of Happiness – why not say so openly? (Wendy says: We DO openly say that the Jewish state of Israel must be transformed into Palestine-Israel, a true democratic state (see above) but the US media and the US government (both dominated by Zionist Jews and their paid off lackeys) NEVER allow this discourse to be public! It is simply NOT included in the US media or governmental discourse, and if it is, it is twisted by Zionists such as YOU, Uri Avnery, who are even twisting the truth in your pathetic article— not calling Israel as it is— a RACIST Jewish state built on stolen land, and Zionist Israel is GUILTY of on-going ethnic-cleansing and genocide of the Palestinian people!)
Of course, that does not mean peace. Peace between Israel and Palestine presupposes that Israel is there. (Wendy says: OH NO IT DOES NOT. That is ridiculous! That is very biased of you, a Zionist Jew, living on STOLEN land. The very concept of a Jewish state on stolen land is racist and unjust.) Peace between the Israeli people and the Palestinian people presupposes that both peoples have a right to self-determination and agree to the peace.(Wendy says: A true peace between Jews and non-Jews in Palestine-Israel can ONLY happen when there are NO double standards, and when JUSTICE has been served, as in Jews MUST RETURN the STOLEN LAND and HOMES of the Palestinian people. First there must be the Truth and Reconciliation Council, and then the Palestinian refugees must be allowed their Right to Return as equals to a TRUE democratic country of Palestine-Israel, which has a constitution which guarantees competely equal rights for all regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, creed or gender. Anyone who does not cooperate will be invited to leave, or will be deported or will be put in prison for disturbing the peace.) Does anyone really believe that racist monsters like us would agree to give up our state because of a boycott? (Wendy says: OH, really? So you ARE admitting that you and other Jewish Zionists are racist monsters who will not just bow to international non-violent pressure? Well, if you don’t then you only have yourselves to blame for the continuing violence. By the way, even the apartheid regime of South Africa was not brought down by ONLY the boycotts— obviously there was violence as well. However, if the US government is finally persuaded by the American public to END ALL US SUPPORT OF THE JEWISH STATE OF ISRAEL then surely Israel will be transformed into Palestine-Israel, a truly democratic state for all, including for all the Palestinian refugees. Your statement seems to presuppose that the Zionist Jews will indeed choose to violently fight any attempts to transform Israel to a truly democratic Palestine-Israel, and that you are on the side of the Zionist Jews in that case. The French and the Germans did not agree to live in one joint state (Wendy says: that’s because they’ve been separate countries for many centuries! Israel is an artificially propped up “state”, a racist, criminal vanity project by international Jews, using primarily US tax dollars and US government to prop it up! You must be willfully ignorant!), though the differences between them are incomparably smaller than those between Jewish Israelis and Arab Palestinians (Wendy says: that’s because international Jewish Israelis have STOLEN Arab Palestinian land! It’s completely UNJUST and IMMORAL.). Instead, they set up a European Union, composed of nation-states. Some 50 years ago I called for a similar Semitic Union, including Israel and Palestine. I still do. (Wendy says: Oh, please. FIRST THING FIRST. The Jewish state of Israel must FIRST be transformed into a true democratic state of Palestine-Israel as I described above. Then they can decide to have an Arab Union, if they want, like what the Ba’athist Party wanted or whatever is truly just. Anyway, there is no sense in arguing with those who pray for the disappearance of the sovereign State of Israel, rather than for the appearance of the sovereign State of Palestine at its side. THE REAL argument is among those who want to see peace between the two states, Israel and Palestine. (Wendy says: Oh, really. We happen to believe that THE REAL argument about achieving justice in the middle east concerns everyone in the world: The answer is that Israel as a Jewish state must be transformed into Palestine-Israel, a true democracy for all regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender, including for all the Palestinian refugees.) The question is: how can it be achieved? (Wendy says: It starts with a Truth and Reconciliation Council, and cutting off all US aid to the racist Jewish state of Israel.) This is an honest debate (Wendy says: NO, it’s NOT honest debate because YOU won’t even consider the most humane solution of the one-democratic state solution of Palestine-Israel. YOU, along with all your Zionist Jewish cohorts, are attempting to marginalize our voices about the ONE-DEMOCRATIC-STATE of Palestine-Israel, BUT you will NOT succeed! Truth, Justice and Equal Rights for all will prevail!) and is generally conducted in a civil manner. My debate with Neve Gordon (Wendy says: Gordon is also a Jewish Zionist!) is in this framework (Wendy says: set by YOU, Zionist Jews, who want to maintain a racist Jewish state on STOLEN Palestinian land! The advocates of boycott believe that the main, indeed the only way to induce Israel to give up the occupied territories and agree to peace is to exert pressure from the outside.
I have no quarrel with the idea of outside pressure. The question is: pressure on whom? On the government, the settlers and their supporters? Or on the entire Israeli people? (The answer is there must be pressure on all the Zionist Jews inside Israel and outside Israel, as well as their racist non-Jewish supporters, such as the Christian Zionists, whether they are in the Israeli or US government, or are Jewish settlers/land-stealers, and including all the Israeli people, many of whom can just up and go to another country to live where they have passports and ease of movement, UNLIKE the Palestinian people who are persecuted by the Israelis.)
The first answer is, I believe, the right one. That’s why I hope that President Barack Obama will publish a detailed peace plan with a fixed timetable and apply the immense powers of persuasion of the USA to get both sides to agree. (Wendy says: How ridiculous. This is a PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT, first and foremost, and we the peoplle WILL get the US government (which is now a puppet of the Zionists) to cut off ALL aid to racist Israel until it transforms into Palestine-Israel, a democratic one-state solution with completely equal rights for all,etc.) I don’t think that this is politically possible without the support of a large part of Israeli society (and, by the way, of the US Jewish community). (Wendy says: Whether the Israeli society supports it or not, it will happen. We the People of the world hold the key. Racist Jewish Israel is artificially being propped up with US taxdollars and lies in the media, which are being debunked worldwide on the internet.)
Some readers have lost all hope in Obama. That is, without doubt, premature. Obama has not surrendered to Binyamin Netanyahu – indeed, it is quite conceivable that the opposite is happening. (Wendy says: Let’s hope so, but so far, with regards to US foreign policy, Obama is proving himself to be just as much a puppet of Zionist Jews as Bush was.) The struggle is on, it is a hard struggle against determined opposition, and we should do all we can to help Obama’s peace policy to prevail. We must do this as Israelis, from inside Israel, and thereby show that this is not a struggle of the US against Israel, but a joint struggle against the Israeli government and the settlers. (Wendy says: This is a struggle of the world, including the informed, moral people of the US, against the Jewish state of Israel built on stolen Palestinian land. YOU, Uri Avnery, are living on STOLEN LAND and YOU are a “settler” / accomplice to the land-stealing Jewish state of Israel.)
It follows that any boycott must serve this purpose: to isolate the settlers and the individuals and institutions which openly support them, but not declare war on Israel and the Israeli people as such. (Wendy says: WRONG, the Jewish state of Israel and all the Jewish people there must be held accountable to right the wrongs, and GIVE BACK THE LAND, as notated above and help transform the Jewish state of Israel into Palestine-Israel, a true democratic state, as I described above.) In the 11 years since Gush Shalom declared a boycott of the products of the settlements, this process has been gaining momentum. We must laud the Norwegian decision, this week, to divest from the Israeli Elbit company because of their involvement with the “Separation Fence” that is being built on Palestinian land and whose main purpose is to annex occupied territories to Israel. This is a splendid example: a focused action against a specific target, based on a ruling of the International Court. (Wendy says: This is just the beginning and will extend to all of IsraHell as a racist Jewish state on stolen land. “The times they are a-changing”.)
I think that far more can be done by a concentrated national and international campaign. A central office should be set up to direct this effort throughout the world against clear and specific targets. (Wendy says: The Jewish state of Israel is a clear and specific target of international pressure to transform into a true democratic state of Palestine-Israel, as I described above. We the people of the world are NOT going to sit around waiting for your “central office to direct this effort”. Ha ha.) Such an effort could be helped by world public opinion, which recoils from the idea of boycotting the State of Israel (Wendy says: however, actually the majority of world public opinion is that Israel is a Jewish supremacist state built on stolen land and that it must transform into a true democratic Palestine-Israel, and all all the Palestinian refugees must be allowed their inalienable Right to Return as equals and with reparations), and not only because of the memory of the Holocaust (Wendy says: which Holocaust? Are you talking about the Holocaust happening in Gaza at the hands of Israeli Jews?), but will identify itself with action against the occupation and the oppression (Wendy says: and a racist Jewish state built on STOLEN LAND).
I have been asked about the Palestinian reaction to the boycott idea. At present, Palestinians do not boycott even the settlements, indeed it is Palestinian workers who are building almost all the houses there, out of economic necessity. Their feelings can only be guessed. All self-respecting Palestinians would, of course, support any effective measure directed against the occupation (Wendy says: as well as a Jewish state built on STOLEN LAND). But it would not be honest to dangle before their eyes the false hope (Wendy says: I say it is NOT a false hope, but WE the People are making the boycott a REAL HOPE that Israel WILL BE TRANSFORMED and PALESTINE WILL BE FREE! For YOU, Uri Avnery, a racist Zionist Jew, it truly is a PHONY hope, since you don’t hope for this at all!) that a world-wide boycott would bring Israel to its knees. The truth is that only the close cooperation of Palestinian, Israeli and international peace forces could generate the necessary momentum to end the occupation and achieve peace. (Wendy says: The Truth is that We the People of the WORLD, and especially here in the US, since “our” government is funding IsraHell, WE will ALL generate the necessary momentum to TRANSFORM the Jewish state of Israel into completely democratic Palestine-Israel to achieve justice and peace and completely equal rights for all including the Palestinian refugees.)
This is especially important because our task in Israel today is not so much to convince the majority of Israelis that peace is good and the price acceptable, but first that peace is possible at all. Most Israelis have lost that hope (Wendy: because the Israeli Jews appear to lack moral courage and integrity, and they don’t want to do the right thing, which is to completely transform the racist Jewish state of Israel into Palestine-Israel; they don’t want to give back the stolen goods, the stolen land, but they must, in order to achieve justice and peace), and its revival (Wendy says: come on, they never really wanted peace based on justice, because the only way to peace is justice— give back the stolen goods, the stolen land) is absolutely vital on the way to peace. (Peace can only come with truth and justice— return the stolen goods!!!!)
TO REMOVE any misconceptions about myself, let me state as clearly as possible where I stand:
I am an Israeli. (Wendy says: But you also come from somewhere else, or at least your parents did. And you could go back there too. Probably Russia. Go there, or give back your stolen goods to the Palestinian refugees and find somewhere else in Palestine-Israel to live, where you actually BUY the land legally, AFTER all the Palestinian refugees have been allowed to reclaim what is rightfully theirs. You will NOT be living in a Jewish state, but the one-democratic state of Palestine-Israel. I’m sure all those rich Jewish philanthropists are able to fund you and other Jews’ relocation as necessary. This is not “ethnic-cleansing”. This is giving back stolen goods.)

I want Israel to be a state belonging to all its citizens, without distinction of ethnic origin, gender, religion or language; with completely equal rights for all; a state in which the Hebrew-speaking majority (Wendy says: You and they are THIEVES. Israeli Jews are NOT the TRUE MAJORITY and WILL NOT BE when the RIGHTFUL OWNERS of the land, the PALESTINIAN PEOPLE will be allowed their INALIENABLE RIGHT TO RETURN AS EQUALS) will retain its close ties with the Jewish communities around the world (Wendy says: Jews from around the world must NOT be allowed to “Return” to Israel as citizens of Israel anymore than Catholics from around the world who visit Jerusalem or the Vaticans can— they are all just tourists or pilgrims but have no right to go there other than as visitors only— they must all go back to their homes elsewhere. Even Muslims around the world don’t have the right to just move to Mecca, but they can be visitors / pilgrims. Same with Jews, they should just be respectful visitor in Palestine-Israel. Only Jews who have been in Israel may possibly have the opportunity to stay there, only if they return what is stolen and play by the new rules of completely equal rights for all,-- it will not be a “Jewish state”, and there will not be a Jewish majority. So if Jews who are there don’t like that, they will be invited to leave. The Jewish philanthropists in the diaspora can help them to find new homes elsewhere in the world), and the Arab-speaking citizens will be free to cherish their close ties with their Palestinian brothers and sisters and the Arab world at large.
If this is racism, Zionism or worse – so be it.

I would bet that Bob Dylan wrote this with regards to the civil rights movement, about equal rights for blacks and whites, that was raging back in 1963 in the USA. But how come Jewish Bob Dylan never wrote a song about the rights of Palestinians who have been trampled on since even a couple of decades BEFORE the Jewish state of Israel was immorally created by stealing Arab land while murdering and terrorizing the indigenous Palestinian people there? Don’t tell me he didn’t know what was going on... Especially later in 1967 during the Six Day War! How come all the Jewish civil rights leaders and peaceniks NEVER talked about the Jewish state of Israel’s campaign of ethnic cleansing and stealing Arab land? They must have know, being so “connected” to “Israel”. Those Zionist Jews are really experts at distracting the attention of the American public from the racist, terrorist, land-stealing Jewish state of Israel, eh? WELL WELL WELL, Palestine’s time has come for justice! Israel must be subject to the same treatment that apartheid South Africa was treated to, as well as the same pressure that supporters of segregation were treated to in the US: and they must likewise transform into a REAL democracy with completely equal rights for all, including for the Palestinian refugees who MUST be allowed their INALIENABLE RIGHT TO RETURN as EQUALS and REPARATIONS. OH YES!!
